University Sustainability Initiative Update

John Cacciola, who is leading the University’s sustainability initiative, reported on various campus initiatives and distributed a summary document giving additional details.

Sub-committee Reports

Sub-Committee’s Report on Socially Responsibility Investing

Jon distributed the draft document prepared by the sub-committee.

He requested that our group review it and e-mail him with any suggestions or changes.

He thanked the sub-committee for their good work.

Sub-Committee’s Report on the University’s Budget Review

Ken Valosky has indicated that the University’s Budget Review will not take place until next year. The University will be doing an overall look at the campus rather than a piecemeal review.

Tom Mogan then presented a brief review of what his sub-committee had done so far on this issue. He said they were looking at the “big picture” and they will write up some broad questions that we should investigate more. They are looking at “best practices” from other organizations. His sub-committee referred to a previous document from the Catholic Bishops which he will e-mail to our committee.

Tom will also e-mail us a draft of their document before our March 14^th meeting so we can discuss it as a group. The document should be finalized by our April 18^th meeting.

Other Business

Jon will present his Annual Report on  the work of our Mission and Social Justice Committee this year to the University Senate on Friday, March 14^th. He will include our discussions and work on Darfur, Childcare, Benefits, Investments, and our Mission as a Committee.

If you have additional suggestions, let him know before the Senate meeting.

Our next Committee meeting is Friday, March 14^th from 9:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m.
