Election of new chair. Julie Klein was unanimously

Multiple degrees. The draft policy on degrees was
circulated. Dr. Johannes provided the summary of what was agreed upon in
the Council of Deans. Concern was raised about how students’ work is
recognized when they have fulfilled degree requirements for multiple
degrees, as it can be a substantial effort. On the other hand, there is no
desire to diminish the value of a single degree. Concern was expressed in
particular with the restriction to one degree of a student who completes a
BA and a BS within the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. Dr. Johannes
shared data that about 90% of cases involve the three categories of Business
Administration and Accountancy, BA and BA Honors, and Economics and
Accountancy. It was moved and seconded that the draft policy be approved.
9 yes, 3 no, chair abstained. Dr. Johannes will refer to the Registrar to
determine how many dual BA-BS degrees within Arts & Sciences have happened
in recent years. It was noted that no students participated in this
discussion.
The next meeting will take place on October 23 at 2:30
p.m. in the Fedigan Room.
